La Porta Maggiore del Duomo di Messina

La Porta Maggiore del Duomo di Messina

The Porta Maggiore of Duomo di Messina is made in bronze and is the result of a careful and conscious work of three artists; even if they managed to keep their own personal style, they created an artwork well harmonized with the monumental architectural structure where the Porta is located. The door is composed of 8 bronze panels. Roberto Joppolo created the three panels at the bottom wing that depict:

- The battle of Lepanto between Christians and Muslims occurred in 1572
- The Virgin Mary defending the people from Messina and the Angioini.
- The 2000 Jubilee. The bronze tiles, realized with wax casting, measure cm. 110 X 110 each.
